Orifice Under Head Flow Formula

Flow (\( Q = CA\sqrt{2gh} \)):

Where:

  • \( Q \) is the discharge, in cubic meters per second (m³/sec).
  • \( C \) is the coefficient dependent on the nature of the crest and approach condition.
  • \( A \) is the cross-sectional area of the orifice, in square meters (m²).
  • \( g \) is the acceleration due to gravity, approximately 9.81 m/sec² (or 32.2 ft/sec²).
  • \( h \) is the height (depth) of water from the surface down to the orifice area, in meters (m).
